International Girls in ICT Day

I had the opportunity to be part of the International Girls in ICT Day celebration held in Dodoma on 23 April 2026. The event brought together students, educators, policymakers, and ICT professionals with a shared goal: encouraging more girls to explore opportunities in technology.

Organized through a collaboration between key institutions in Tanzania’s ICT sector, the event created a space to promote digital inclusion and highlight the importance of empowering young women in tech. It was encouraging to see so many young girls actively engaging, asking questions, and showcasing their growing interest in ICT.

One of the most meaningful moments for me was delivering a motivational talk and sharing my journey in technology. I spoke about the challenges, the lessons, and the persistence required to grow in this field. My message was simple: girls belong in ICT, and success is possible with curiosity, confidence, and continuous learning.

The event also featured exhibitions and interactive sessions, giving students exposure to real-world applications of ICT and different career paths. These practical experiences are key in helping young learners see what is possible.

A takeaway from the day is that early exposure, strong role models, and supportive systems matter. If we want to close the digital gender gap, we need to invest in creating opportunities for girls from a young age and continue supporting them as they grow.

I left Dodoma feeling inspired and hopeful. The future of technology is brighter when more girls are part of it.
