4th EAC Regional STI Conference – Kigali

I’m attending the 4th EAC Regional Science, Technology and Innovation Conference in Kigali, a great platform to explore how AI can shape a more resilient, inclusive, and innovative East Africa.

The conference brings together policymakers, researchers, and innovators from across the region to discuss the role of science and technology in driving sustainable development. It’s encouraging to see growing momentum around AI and its potential impact.

Alongside the conference, I also took part in a Train-the-Trainer workshop on AI literacy for public servants organized by UNESCO. The sessions focused on how to train public servants on the do’s and don’ts of AI, and how to use these tools responsibly to improve service delivery.

A key takeaway from both the conference and the workshop is: building capacity is just as important as building technology. With the right knowledge and guidance, AI can be used in ways that are ethical, practical, and impactful.

Grateful to be part of these conversations and to contribute to shaping a future where innovation supports shared progress across East Africa.
